Julie Anne Smith

Julie Anne Smith brings over 20 years of life sciences industry experience to Juvena, with a proven track record of leading private and public biotechnology companies through the successful development and commercialization of therapeutics for rare and orphan diseases.
Prior to joining Juvena, Ms. Smith served as CEO and director of Nuvig Therapeutics, a biopharma company developing recombinant human therapeutics for autoimmune diseases. She previously served as President and CEO of ESCAPE Bio, where she led the development of targeted therapies for genetic forms of neurodegeneration. Her executive leadership experience also includes serving as President and CEO of Raptor Pharmaceuticals, a commercial-stage public company, until its acquisition by Horizon Pharmaceuticals, and as Chief Commercial Officer of Enobia Pharmaceuticals until its acquisition by Alexion Pharmaceuticals.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Smith held various industry roles of increasing responsibility at Jazz Pharmaceuticals, Genzyme, Novazyme, and Bristol-Myers Squibb. In addition to her executive roles, she currently serves on the boards of directors of Stoke Therapeutics and Exelixis, Inc. She previously served on the board of directors of Audentes Therapeutics, Inc., as well as the Health and Emerging Companies Section Governing Boards of the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO). Ms. Smith holds a B.S. in biological and nutritional sciences from Cornell University.
