Senior Computational Biologist – Multiomics

Position Description

Juvena Therapeutics, Inc. is a regenerative medicine biotech startup inviting applicants for Computational Biologist – Multiomics who are excited to work as a core member of a team focused on the discovery and validation of novel candidate biologics for tissue regeneration and increased stem cell activity.

The computational biologist will be responsible for driving project-specific lead discovery and prioritization by extracting meaningful biological insights from large, complex omics datasets and integrating the results into Juvena Therapeutics’ growing in-house knowledge ecosystem.

They will develop and apply creative, leading-edge approaches in bioinformatics, biostatistics, and machine-learning to integrate proprietary high throughput in vitro screening and in vivo verification assays, protein/gene annotation and pathway databases, ontologies, and publicly available omics datasets. Predictive modeling will be applied to enhance the efficiency of lead therapeutic drug screening and design.

Company Summary

Juvena Therapeutics is on a mission to discover and develop biologics for rare and chronic degenerative diseases by mining the secretomes of human pluripotent stem cells through a machine learning (ML)-enhanced platform. Juvena’s approach integrates proteomics, transcriptomics and imaging with phenotypic human in vitro disease model screening and extensive preclinical validation to mine stem cell secretomes as a rich source of new medicines for chronic and rare diseases. We are advancing leads for muscular dystrophies, muscle atrophy, injury, osteopathies, and new programs targeting additional degenerative diseases affecting other human organs. Since our launch in mid-2018, Juvena has discovered and validated 22 hits for neuromuscular, skeletal, and metabolic diseases. Juvena is advancing a lead program for Myotonic Dystrophy Type 1, a rare autosomal dominant, progressive muscle-wasting disease.

Juvena Therapeutics has secured >$47M in venture capital, NIH, and CIRM funding to develop their top lead to a clinical-stage investigational new drug, to build their stem cell secretome database, and to leverage their discovery platform to rapidly identify and validate novel protein-based drug candidates for multiple rare and chronic diseases across inflammatory, cardiometabolic and hepatic therapeutic areas. Position Requirements

  • Bring to the Discovery team your expertise in a) identification, curation, integration, and analysis of multiomics data, b) statistical analysis and visualization of complex data relationships driving lead discovery and validation, and c) statistical and machine-learning based predictive modeling to make strategy recommendations.
  • Develop and apply computational models to enhance the efficiency of candidate biologics screening for increased stem cell activity from prototype to scale deployment.
  • Work cross-functionally to create the best possible pipeline of candidate therapeutics and the tools to scale out efficiently across multiple indications.
  • Improve efficiency by automating data extractions, analyses, and reporting;
  • Manage Google Cloud and AWS resources connected to relevant projects;
  • Other scientific tasks as required.
  • Actively survey the forefront of published methods and resources for your field and internalize key aspects to the company


This position is a great fit if you have/are:

  • M.S./PhD in Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Computer Science + Biological research, or other related disciplines involving both biology and computational data analysis, with 1-4 years of post-graduate experience
  • Demonstrated mastery of both computational analysis and biology with publications, co-inventorships, or other impressive achievements
  • Highly communicative. Effective communicator verbally, in writing, and in presentations to both expert and novice audiences
  • Self-Starter – Can work independently and/or collaboratively with scientists to make appropriate and timely decisions to meet deadlines on experiments and projects
  • Strong foundational knowledge and experience with biological data, particularly with methods generating large scale  omics data sets (e.g. epigenomics, genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics)
  • Expertise in computational multi-omics analysis integrating multiple data types including large omics datasets such as single-cell RNAseq studies, ontologies, and pathways/networks.
  • Experience in statistics and predictive modeling such as Bayesian statistics, linear and non-linear modeling, multivariate analysis, network analysis, machine learning, etc.
  • Demonstrated expertise in a scripting language (e.g. Python)
  • Demonstrated expertise in statistical computing language (e.g. R or Python)
  • Demonstrated expertise in cloud computing systems – experience with Google Cloud and AWS resources is a plus
  • Familiarity with pharmaceutical R&D is a plus.
  • Industry or startup R&D experience is a plus.
